Abertay Online is a Web based 2D educational game developed for the client, Abertay University (in Dundee, Scotland, UK). It is designed to have a simple framework which allows the user to start, play and exit separate games. The games aim to provide the user with an understanding of the graduate attributes that Abertay University aims to help their graduates achieve by the end of their studies.
Development Duration : 10 Weeks (February - May, 2011)
Team : 2 Programmers (including myself), 1 Artist, 1 Designer and 1 Producer.

Complete development of four educational games (listed below) to plug in to the framework (art assets received from the artist).
Software system design to keep the software system simple, extensible and maintainable by modular design. (i.e., Separate framework and the mini games. Separate mini games (.swf) are plugged into the framework.)

The four Educational Games
Educational Game 1 : "Sentence Structuring Lecture" Game
A lecture game to introduce user to how a paragraph is constructed. Questions are asked from an example paragraph. The user is allowed to choose from a number of answers allowed for each question and then formative feedback is provided depending on their answer.
Educational Game 2 : "Sentence Ordering Task" Game
A game to test the users’ ability to sort sentences in the correct order. The user is presented with sentences which must be dragged and dropped into the correct order.

Educational Game 3 : "Note Taking" Game
A game to help user understand about paying attention. Different coloured notes are dispatched into different directions and the user is notified on which notes to collect. The game lasts for 60 seconds and formative feedback is provided to the user.

A lecture game to help users’ listening skills. Questions are asked from a video. The user is allowed to choose the answer and then formative feedback is provided depending on their answer.
